The first festival of agricultural products “FarmFest” took place in Kyakhta on August 25, the press service of the Government of the Republic of Buryatia reports.
More than 30 farmers and processors, 17 territorial Public Self-Government Organizations (TPS) from all over the area and more than 5 thousand guests gathered in the central square of the city.
Producers brought ripe vegetables, homemade preserves, semi-finished products, fresh meat, baked goods, honey, berries, frozen fish and dairy products.
“It is not for nothing that a number of our agricultural festivals are being launched in the city of Kyakhta. Here, centuries ago, trading traditions developed, and we can see their continuation on the counters. This festival encourages farmers to improve the quality of their products, work on their brands and find new buyers.”– Minister of Agriculture of the Republic Galsan Dareev addressed the audience at the opening of the festival.
The festival programme also included performances by creative groups from the region and soloists of the Buryat Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, master classes and competitions.
Agricultural festivals will soon be held in Gusinoozersk and Ulan-Ude.
It should be noted that in Buryatia agriculture, livestock farming predominates. Its share in the total value of agricultural products produced in the region is 68.1%, and agricultural production accounts for 31.9%.
Wheat, rye, barley, oats, buckwheat, peas, potatoes, open and protected ground vegetables and melons are grown in Buryatia.
The structure of meat production in the republic according to 2015 data is as follows. The total volume of production of all types of meat in slaughter weight amounted to 43.9 thousand tons. Of this volume, more than half accounted for beef (50.8%), pork (43.1%), lamb and goat (2.9%), poultry (0.6%) and other types of meat (2.5%).
Plant cultivation in Buryatia is represented by the cultivation of wheat, rye, barley, oats, buckwheat, peas, potatoes, open-field vegetables, protected soil vegetables, and melons.
