The results of all-Russian sports competitions in men’s épée fencing were summed up in Moscow on February 18, the press service of the Russian Fencing Federation reported.
16 teams participated in the team portion of the competition. In addition to two teams from the Moscow region, in addition to Samara and Novosibirsk, the rest represented Moscow and Bashkiria. The main contender for first place, of course, was the Russia-1 team, which included the winner of the individual championship held the day before, Alexei Udovichenko, and Artem Sarkisyan and Sergey Bida, who took second and third places. However, during the competition it became clear that team spirit and the will to win are often more important than individual skill.
In the final, Russia-2 and U-23, made up of athletes from Moscow, the Moscow Region and Bashkiria, met. Under-23 confidently won 45:29, becoming the champion of the tournament.
Russia-1 still did not run out of medals. Having lost to Russia-2 36:37 in a dramatic semifinal, when everything was decided only in the last match, the team won the bronze match against Juniors-1 from the Samara region 34:31.
