Eight people were stabbed and 334 were arrested for weapons or drug offences during the Notting Hill Carnival in London, England, the Metropolitan Police said on Wednesday. BBC.
The first three victims were stabbed on Sunday, including a critically ill mother who was with her child. Five more people were stabbed on Monday, two of whom were seriously injured. Police also said more than 50 officers were injured in the incident.
In total, police seized three firearms and made 49 arrests for possession of other weapons.
The Notting Hill Carnival is a famous event that attracts huge crowds every year. This year, more than a million people were expected.
This brutal scenario has already happened in previous events. In 2023, eight people were also stabbed and 275 were arrested.
“We are tired of telling families that their loved ones are seriously injured or worse. We are tired of seeing crime scenes at the carnival,” said Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Ade Adelekan.
Police say they have been working with event organisers for several months to ensure security at the Notting Hill Carnival.
