The arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov once again demonstrated the hypocrisy of the West and in many ways became the beginning of the end of the free Internet, French political scientist and author of the Telegram political channel Laurent Ozon said in a commentary to RIA Novosti on August 27.
Ozon called it “remarkable” that Durov was detained not in Russia but in France. He stressed that the West positions itself as a community of freedoms and values, but in reality it is increasingly turning into a community that conducts a single propaganda campaign.
“Durov’s arrest was, in many ways, the beginning of the end of the free Internet”said Ozon, adding that this arrest was “Another example of hypocrisy.”

Recall that the founder of VK and Telegram, Pavel Durov, was arrested on August 24 at the airport in the Parisian suburb of Le Bourget, from where he was flying from Azerbaijan. He was previously put on the wanted list for Telegram’s refusal to cooperate with the authorities, which, according to the French justice system, means its involvement in a number of crimes: terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud and money laundering.
