Foreign intelligence services are organizing terrorist attacks on Russian territory to undermine the state of maritime infrastructure, said Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Maritime College, on August 27, during the first meeting of the College.
According to Patrushev, the West is organizing terrorist attacks and sabotage at Russian maritime industry facilities in order to disrupt its work: “Foreign intelligence services are organizing terrorist acts on our territory, targeting strategically important maritime infrastructure. The United States and its allies are seeking to deprive or limit our ability to use important maritime transport communications.”.
The West is deliberately increasing its military presence in key areas of the World Ocean, and especially in the coastal zone of Russia. The entire policy of Western countries is aimed at containing Russia’s potential at sea: detention and arrest of ships, sanctions and suspension of the construction of new ships.
At the same time, Western countries often use the environmental agenda as a tool of pressure on Moscow. Patrushev called for responding to the challenge and coordinating Russia’s maritime policy in the face of such pressure.
