Cape Verdean authorities have ordered the preventive detention of two suspects in high-risk drug trafficking and other crimes on the island of Sao Vicente, the Judicial Police (PJ) said on Tuesday.
Cape Verde police arrested three men aged between 33 and 44 “at the scene of a crime” on Friday while executing a search warrant at a home in the town of Monte Sossego.
After the first interrogation by the judge, only one of the detainees was released from prison, forced to periodically report to the authorities and given a ban on visiting the search sites.
During the search, 30 pieces of cocaine, two sharp weapons, three mobile phones and money were seized, police said, without specifying the quantity.
The arrests were made during an operation as part of a plan to prevent and combat domestic drug trafficking.
In June, on the same island, dozens of police inspectors, supported by the National Police and the Armed Forces, detained six people and seized several types of drugs during the operation.
