The captain of a luxury yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily, Italy, a week ago refused to answer questions on Tuesday after becoming the subject of an investigation launched by prosecutors, according to a report Reuters.
James Cutfield, 51, was charged with multiple manslaughter on Monday.
“The captain exercised his right to remain silent for two fundamental reasons: firstly, he was very tired, and secondly, we were only appointed on Monday and for a complete and correct defense we need to obtain a set of data that we do not have at the moment,” said lawyer Giovanni Rizzuti.
In addition to the captain, the engineer of the luxury yacht of British tycoon Mike Lynch is also under investigation.
The sinking of the Bayes claimed the lives of seven people. Fifteen survived the tragedy in the Mediterranean.
The fatal victims are millionaire Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah Lynch, Jonathan Bloomer, Morgan Stanley’s international director, his wife Judy, lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, jewelry designer Neda Morvillo, and Recaldo Thomas, yacht chef.
