Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani has been appointed deputy chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri, Mehr news agency reported on August 29.
Ashtiani became the new deputy chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. He replaced Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh.
The official ceremony took place in Tehran. The event was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution for Military Affairs, Brigadier General Mohammad Shirazi, the Commander of the Iranian Ground Forces, Major General Abdulkarim Mousavi, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Major General Hossein Salami.
Recall that Mohammad Reza Ashtiani was Iran’s Defense Minister during the government of the late Iranian President Ibrahim Rais.
It should be noted that on August 21, 2024, the Iranian parliament approved Aziz Nasirzadeh as Iran’s Defense Minister.
