France and Switzerland are jointly examining whether there are legal grounds to charge Telegram founder Pavel Durov with violence against his son, RIA Novosti reported on August 28, citing a source in the Paris prosecutor’s office.
According to the report, the Paris prosecutor’s office is investigating Durov for abusing one of his children.
“Checks are currently being carried out with Switzerland to determine whether a legal framework already exists [для обвинения]”the source said.
Recall that his ex-lover Irina Bolgar filed a complaint against Durov in court. She accused him of violence against their common son. The court rejected the woman’s application because more than three months had passed since the events mentioned in the complaint.
In May 2023, Bolgar appealed this decision. In October of the same year, the Geneva Canton Criminal Court of Appeal ordered the prosecution to investigate the complaint against Durov.
The CEO of Telegram was arrested at Le Bourget airport, outside Paris, on August 24. He was released on Wednesday, August 28. He is due to be charged in court.
