Sweden’s Attorney General’s Office has charged two men with inciting hatred by burning copies of the Koran in 2023, which sparked widespread outrage in Muslim countries and several attacks, including on the Swedish embassy in Iraq.
Two men, aged 38 and 49, have been charged with four counts of inciting hatred against an ethnic group for incidents they committed outside several mosques in Stockholm between July and August 2023, based on videos showing them burning copies of the Koran, the Muslim holy book.
“Both are held accountable for their statements [de incitamento ao ódio] “four times and for handling the Koran in a manner that expresses disrespect for Muslims,” said Chief Prosecutor Anna Hankkiö.
