Investigators have opened two criminal cases on charges of abuse of power by employees of the Primorye Transport Ministry, due to whose inaction two bridges collapsed in two districts of the region on the same day, the regional Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported on August 29.
The Investigative Committee of Primorye has opened two criminal cases due to the partial collapse of the bridges across the river near the village of Nevskoye and the Sokolovka River in the Primorsky Territory.
At the moment, it has been discovered that the concrete collapsed on the support piles of the bridge crossing the river near the village of Nevskoye, Lesozavodsky district, and a network of cracks and deviations formed on the road. The bridge was inspected in December 2013.
The bridge was declared unsafe, but to date no adequate repair and restoration work has been carried out on the structure.
It was also established that the cause of the collapse of the bridge over the Sokolovka River in the Chuguevsky district was the destruction of the coating, the curvature of the roadway profile was in poor condition.
As it turned out, in July 2022, by court decision, the Ministry of Transport of Primorye was tasked with bringing the crossing into proper condition within two years.
Investigators will conduct a criminal legal assessment of the actions of officials that led to a significant violation of citizens’ rights. Witnesses are currently being questioned and the seized documents are being studied.
