The number of illegal immigrants in Russia is more than 630 thousand people, said the First Deputy Minister of the Interior Alexander Gorovoy, Kommersant reports on August 29.
According to sources, Alexander Gorov announced the estimates of the Interior Ministry, according to which the number of illegal immigrants in Russia reaches 630 thousand people, at a meeting of the government commission on migration policy chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova. Most of the illegal immigrants came from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
According to the Deputy Minister, the immigrants found themselves in an illegal situation due to the commission of two or more administrative violations, including residence regulations and participation in illegal work activities.
According to Gorovoy, before including migrants in a special register to tighten the regime of stay in Russia, it is necessary to grant an amnesty to those who committed “relatively minor offenses.” “If you add them all to the registry at the same time, no IT infrastructure will support it.”“, explained the Deputy Minister of the Interior.
Note that, according to a study by RANEPA, the number of immigrants in Russia does not exceed 3.5 million people.
Let us recall that Russia has adopted a bill that will tighten the regime for migrants. The special registration of migrants will be launched on February 5, 2025.
