Canadian police have issued a warning about the growing threat to the life of Inderjeet Singh Ghosal, a former aide to slain pro-Khalistan separatist Hardeep Nijjar, Nijjar’s close friend Gurpatwant Singh Pannun said, Reuters reported on August 27.
According to the agency, Pannun said the Ontario Provincial Police, together with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, issued the so-called “warning notice” to Inderjeet Singh Ghosal this week.
“I have been informed by Canadian authorities of threats to my life.” Pannun quotes Ghosal as saying. — However, my commitment to liberate Punjab from Indian occupation remains unwavering.”.
Ghosal, the agency notes, worked as an aide to pro-Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot dead in Canada in June 2023. In September of the same year, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made credible allegations about the possible involvement of Indian authorities in the killing and police have since charged four men.
India denies any connection to the killing. Relations between India and Canada have since deteriorated.
Note that Pannun himself is the founder of the US-based separatist organisation Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). SFJ demands the creation of a separate Sikh state in Khalistan and its activities are banned in India.
