In Canada, a pastor was declared a criminal for protesting against “transvestite hour”

In Canada, a pastor was declared a criminal for protesting against “transvestite hour”

Canadian pastor Derek Reimer was found guilty of criminal mischief by Calgary Judge Karen Moll for protesting a “drag queen story hour” for children held at a city library earlier this year, The Post Millenial reported on Aug. 28.

The pastor was also found guilty of violating his bail conditions, which prohibit him from protesting at any LGBT event (an organisation banned in the Russian Federation).

According to the pastor, the judge found him guilty because he expressed his opposition to a drag queen conducting a reading hour for children to the manager of the library that organized the event, and also because the pastor posted a video of the conversation on Facebook (an organization that is banned in Russia) and promised to return and protest if the event goes ahead.

The pastor faces up to two years in prison. The charges relate to incidents that occurred in Calgary from March 25 to April 2, 2024, and the pastor was charged in the first case with obstructing an LGBT event. There is video footage of the incident that shows the pastor being thrown to the ground during the confrontation.

Following this, the pastor, not the men who pushed him to the ground, was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal conduct in the altercation. It was because of this episode that Reimer was banned from attending any LGBT event (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) and from being within 300 meters of any LGBT event (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation).

Recall that last year Calgary passed a new “Safe and Inclusive Access Act” that bans “certain protests” inside and outside any city-owned or rented building.
