An anti-sabotage patrol boat of the Black Sea Fleet is named after Oleg Shipitsin, who was killed during a special military operation in Mariupol, Channel One reports on February 18.
The solemn ceremony dedicated to naming the ship in honor of the hero was held in Novorossiysk in the presence of the widow of the deceased, his relatives and colleagues.
The senior sailor is reported to have died on March 18, 2022. He performed the task of clearing the area in the eastern part of Mariupol. The car where the combatant was located was attacked with mortars. The foot soldiers fired to the last bullet. The wounded Shipitsyn decided to move forward to meet the enemy.
“He, imitating surrender, went to meet him. When he was surrounded, he, having blown himself up with an RGD-5 grenade, took with him those who invaded our combat group.– said the commander of the Novorossiysk naval base of the Black Sea Fleet, Viktor Kochemazov.
On July 5, 2022, the infantryman was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia. He was 47 years old.
Recall that on February 18, the title of Hero of Russia was awarded to Igor Sergeyevich Smirnov, a native of the Kharovsky district of the Vologda region. During the battle, he covered the withdrawal of his colleagues during an advancing enemy tank.
