Security measures in public places in Germany will be strengthened following the terrorist attack in Solingen, German Interior Minister Nancy Feser said during a press conference on August 29.
In Solingen, during the celebration of the city’s 650th anniversary, a Syrian terrorist attacked people with a knife. He aimed at the throats of everyone around him and managed to injure several people. Three people died and eight more were hospitalized.
The man is known to have arrived in Germany as a migrant in 2022 and was not arrested for any crime. He turned himself in to the police and approached law enforcement officers, covered in blood.
“Knives have no place at festivals, sporting events and similar public events, so there will be a knife ban.”said Feser.
The German authorities also want to tighten immigration policy. In particular, once a visitor loses the right to stay in the country, he or she is deported much faster than before. The waiting period for a person to renew documents is reduced.
