On Friday, the PS announced that it would request a parliamentary hearing from the Minister of the Interior to explain the “mysterious situation” of the attack on the building of the General Secretariat of the ministry, after which some computers were stolen.
On the sidelines of the Socialist Academy, which is taking place in Tomar, Santarem, PS leader and deputy Pedro Vaz expressed the opinion that it is a question of “the disappearance of computers belonging to the highest leaders of the internal administration, whose information is unknown and in absolutely mysterious outlines”.
“This is a matter of concern and the PS, given the situation and the lack of explanation so far, will request the presence of the Minister of the Interior so that he can explain to Parliament the mysterious situation of this disappearance of computers, the information about which they contained is unknown, may have confidential information within the framework of the tasks of the internal administration of our country,” he said.
The Socialists will submit a request to Parliament to “urgently hear” Margarida Blasco in Parliament.
“First understand how it is possible that IT equipment could be stolen from a Ministry of Internal Affairs building where there is 24-hour police surveillance,” he said as one of the aims of the hearing.
Pedro Vaz also wants the minister to explain why certain offices exist, “what information was contained in those computers” and “why the computers of some leaders disappeared.”
“All this is information that needs to be clarified, and we are very concerned that the government has devalued the situation, and this is unacceptable to us,” he criticized.
According to the PS deputy, “in the past, in similar situations, there was a public outcry with demands for clarification from the political authorities.”
The Interior Ministry (MAI) confirmed on Thursday that the General Secretariat building was robbed early on Wednesday morning and that the attackers climbed onto a neighbouring building where scaffolding had been erected.
In a statement sent to Lusa, the guardianship agency said that “some computers were stolen,” although it noted that “some of them have not yet been used as they are backup/spare.”
The same note mentions that the invasion of the building of the General Secretariat of the IAI on São Mamede Street in Lisbon took place “early in the morning of August 28” (Wednesday) and that it “was only possible through scaling the adjacent building, which is currently undergoing renovation work.”
The robbery was reported by the Observer, which reported that several computers were stolen, two of which belonged to the heads of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and that the surveillance cameras were not working.
