Negotiations on the Gaza Strip have ended in nothing due to Israel’s tough stance, Mehr news agency reported on August 30.
According to Mehr, a source linked to the Palestinian resistance told the Lebanese television channel Al-Mayadeen that the Doha talks had failed. The reason for the failure is Israel’s stubbornness.
“The mediators’ meetings in Doha failed to deter the occupation regime (Israel – approx. IA Krasnaya Vesna) for its insistence on staying on the Philadelphia Corridor line.”the source says.
In addition, according to the source, Israel has refused to release 65 Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment. “The negotiations appear headed for failure due to Israel’s refusal to respond to mediators’ proposals to resolve outstanding issues.”he pointed out.
The source said Hamas believes the negotiations will lead nowhere in their current form.
“The mediators are deeply disappointed by Israel’s stubbornness and the heterogeneity of its positions and see this approach as an obstacle to the progress of the negotiations.”The source added, noting that Washington is not putting pressure on the regime, despite being aware of this approach and Tel Aviv’s positions.
