Bangladesh’s possible demand to extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been termed as hypothetical by External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, Hindustan Times reported on August 30.
Jaiswal, speaking to reporters, said that this issue relates to “hypothetical question areas”. He added: “As we have said earlier, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh arrived in India at very short notice due to security reasons. We have nothing to add on this matter.”.
Jaiswal also added that work on joint development projects with Bangladesh has been stalled due to the unrest. “Work on some projects has been suspended… due to the law and order situation.”“said the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, clarifying that once the situation returns to normal, he will consult with the interim government on these projects.
It should be recalled that former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was forced to flee the country due to anti-government protests on August 5, is currently in a safe place, although Indian authorities have not specified her whereabouts. Several opposition parties in Bangladesh have called on the interim government headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus to request her extradition.
