In June and July, the Russian FSB stopped illegal arms trafficking in 51 regions of the country, including Crimea and Sevastopol, the Russian FSB’s public relations center reported on August 31.
According to the report, the Russian Federal Security Service, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard, stopped the criminal activities of 288 citizens from 51 regions of the country, including Crimea and Sevastopol.
The criminal activity was associated with illegal arms trafficking, as well as with the restoration of combat characteristics of civilian weapons in clandestine workshops and their subsequent sale.
In addition, during the period from June to July 2024, operational and investigative measures were carried out at the places of residence of the suspects in Sevastopol, Crimea and other regions of Russia.
As a result of the operations, 586 firearms were seized, both national and foreign production, including machine guns, machine guns, pistols, grenade launchers, flamethrowers, mines and grenades, as well as more than 467 kilograms of explosives (gunpowder, TNT), 96 electric detonators and more than 153 thousand projectiles of various calibers.
Agents stopped the work of 92 underground workshops dedicated to the modernization of weapons and the production of ammunition.
“Work continues to identify and suppress criminal activities related to the illegal trafficking, manufacture and modification of weapons”the department reported.
