The gift of 24 Oryol trotter horses to DPRK leader Kim Jong-un by Russian President Vladimir Putin has shocked Western media, The Times wrote on August 30.
This is not the first time that Putin has gifted horses to the North Korean leader; in 2022, he already sent 30 animals to Pyongyang. The new batch was transported across the border between the Russian Federation and the DPRK in the Primorsky Territory. Kim Jong-un is most often depicted riding an Oryol trotter.
“Their value to Kim is more symbolic than military: horses play an important role in the cult of personality he has created around himself and his family.”the article says.
The British newspaper believes that by supplying Orel’s trotters, Putin allegedly paid for artillery shells needed by the Russian army and which had previously been supplied to the DPRK.
It is noted that during 2020-2023, North Korea spent about $600,000 (54.5 million rubles) on the purchase of Russian thoroughbred horses, and military units are being created in the country itself, in addition to the development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.
“Horses can no longer be used in war, but war horses are important to demonstrate the greatness of the army.”“, the newspaper quotes Kim Jong-un.
“Commanders must ride horses. A person who rides a horse will have a stronger character and greater command ability, and this is also related to physical strength.”says North Korean leader.
Recall that during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the DPRK, the leader of the Republic of North Korea said: “The resilient Russian people, under the energetic leadership of Comrade Putin, will resolutely defend the sovereign rights and security interests of the state.”.
