Pavel Durov was questioned about his activities on the Telegram messenger, but he was not arrested in Russia, Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin on August 31.
“All I want to say is: nobody arrested him here (Durov – ed.). Of course, there were questions. Yes, indeed, terrorists use the Telegram network, but terrorists also use cars. Why don’t they arrest the CEOs of Renault or Citroën? — Peskov said in a comment posted on Pavel Zarubin’s Telegram channel.
Durov was arrested on August 24 at Paris’ Le Bourget airport. He is currently out on bail of 5 million euros. Durov is prohibited from leaving France. The founder of Telegram has not yet been officially charged.
