Champions Bayer Leverkusen squandered a two-goal lead and lost 3-2 to Leipzig in the second round of the German Football League, ending their 35-game unbeaten run.
In the reception against Sporting’s Champions League opponents, the “pharmacists” scored two “flurry” goals, in the 39th and 45th minutes, by Frimpong and former Benfica player Grimaldo, and Kevin Kampl (45+7) reduced the deficit in the added time of the first half.
Bayer’s team is ninth with three.
The Pharmacists have not lost in the league since May 27, 2023, when they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bochum.
Earlier, Borussia Dortmund, reduced to 10 players, finished the game with a score of 0:0 against Werder Bremen (0:0).
At the Weserstadion in Bremen the score remained unchanged for 90 minutes and the situation for Borussia became “shaky” from the moment central defender Schlotterbeck was sent off (73).
Stuttgart and Mainz also drew, but by three goals, in a match in which the underdogs managed to recover from a two-goal deficit.
Millot and Leveling left the match in the 8th and 15th minutes in favor of Stuttgart, but before the end of the rest period, Amiri (43) closed the distance, and Burkardt (62) equalized the score.
In the final period, substitute Rieder (88) scored for the locals, but Leitch (90+4), who was also brought in in the second half, still managed to score a goal and secure the result at 3-3.
At Deutsche Bank Park, goals from Ekicke (24), Larsson (33) and Marmus (56) secured a 3-1 win for Eintracht over Hoffenheim, which was shortened by Kramaric (54).
Wolfsburg, with Thiago Thomas in the starting lineup, went to the fortress of Kiel and won 2:0 thanks to two precise shots from Arnold (27) and Bornau (30), already in the first half, the same result as Bochum-Borussia Mönchengladbach (0:2), and in favor of the guests scored Kleindienst (67) and Honorat (78).
