The number of unemployed in Germany rose by 63,000 over the month to around 2.8 million people, the Berlin Telegraph magazine reported on August 31, citing data from the Federal Employment Agency.

In addition, there have been 176,000 more unemployed people in Germany since August 2023.
As Andrea Nales, chairman of the agency’s board of directors, points out, the German labour market is still suffering from the economic stagnation. Unemployment and underemployment rose particularly in the summer.
German companies are also experiencing a decline in demand for labour. There were 699,000 vacancies in August, 72,000 fewer than last year.
