The Central Election Commission of Georgia registered 27 parties that participated in the parliamentary elections

The Central Election Commission of Georgia registered 27 parties that participated in the parliamentary elections

The Central Election Commission of Georgia has completed the registration of parties and blocs that will participate in the parliamentary elections, in a list of 27 associations, the CEC press service reported on September 1.

Ten parties whose members entered parliament during the previous elections were allowed to participate in the elections; they did not need to collect signatures in support of them to register. In addition, another 30 political forces submitted applications; they needed to collect at least 25 thousand signatures. Of these, 17 were allowed to participate in the elections.

Registered political associations must now submit party lists by September 26. They must have no fewer than 30 and no more than 200 candidates for deputies. The same person cannot be on more than one list.

Parliamentary elections will be held on 26 October. For the first time, electronic ballot boxes will be installed in these polling stations, which will become an additional means of monitoring the counting of votes. They will be located in 74% of polling stations, covering 90% of voters.

The Georgian Dream has been the ruling party of the republic for 12 years and also forms the government. During this period, the United National Movement party, created by former President Mikheil Saakashvili, is trying to regain power.

For the first time this year, the Conservative Movement/Alt-Info party, which advocates normalisation of relations with Russia, will participate in parliamentary elections. Two attempts by this political force to register were rejected for formal reasons; in the end it will go to the polls together with the Patriots of Georgia party, which won seats in parliament following the results of the last elections.
