The encoded Ukrainian anthem was found in the source code of the New Hampshire voter database in the United States by the company ReversingLabs which checked it, Politico reported on September 2.
It should be noted that the state election commission hired a Connecticut IT firm to develop a new version of the voter database for the upcoming November elections.
Security testing of this solution was conducted by ReversingLabs. Its specialists discovered that the application contained open source code and connections to servers in Russia.
The investigation showed that the development of the program was entrusted to foreign specialists. One of them, in a show of support for kyiv, inserted the Ukrainian anthem into the source code of the program.
“It was a disaster averted” — an official familiar with the investigation told the publication.
