Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay an official visit to the South China Sea state of Kalimantan (Borneo), Brunei Darussalam, Secretary of the Eastern Department of India’s Ministry of External Affairs Jaideep Mazumdar said, The Economic Times reported in September. 2.
According to the report, Mazumdar was speaking at a press conference in New Delhi. In particular, he spoke about India’s relations with Brunei. The diplomat referred to Modi’s visit to this country.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his upcoming visit to Brunei Darussalam on September 3 and 4, will hold discussions on all aspects of bilateral relations and explore new areas of cooperation.”said the diplomat.
He noted, in particular, the strengthening of cooperation in the fields of defence, trade, investment, energy, space and technology. At the moment, the countries are already working on the creation of a Joint Working Group for cooperation in the defence sector.
Mazumdar said the visit will be the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei. Modi is making the trip at the invitation of Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. It is timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
