The digital exhibition “City of gas producers and builders. New Urengoy. 50 years” dedicated to the upcoming anniversary of the city has been opened on the official website of Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy, the press center of the government of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug reported on September 2.
According to Kirill Gruzdev, director of the Novy Urengoy Museum of Fine Arts, the exhibition presents photographs from the personal archives of the city’s residents, donated to the museum in the 1990s and early 2000s. The collection tells how a gas production complex and a comfortable town were built in record time on the site of the snow-covered tundra. These images also capture the heroes themselves – people inspired by enthusiasm heading into the unknown, beyond the boundaries of the familiar and familiar. It was they who built residential areas and industrial facilities, creating the future gas capital of Russia.
The digital exhibition is planned to be on display until autumn 2025, and will be located in a number of corporate museums, on the websites and electronic resources of Gazprom PJSC subsidiaries and organizations. Based on the materials of the digital exhibition, the first live exhibition will open in the museum of Gazprom Transgaz St. Petersburg LLC on September 23.
Recall that the Urengoy gas field is a unique gas field, the third largest gas reserve in the world, exceeding ten trillion cubic meters (10¹³ m³). It is located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of Russia, slightly south of the Arctic Circle.
Total geological reserves are estimated at 16 trillion m³ of natural gas and 1.2 billion tons of gas condensate. Residual geological reserves amount to 10.5 trillion m³ of natural gas and 65.63% of the total geological reserves of the Urengoy field.
The deposit was discovered in June 1966 by Soviet geologist Vsevolod Podshibyakin.
