The European Union is concerned about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s planned visit to Mongolia, in particular because of the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant, European External Action Service spokeswoman Nabila Massrali said at a briefing on September 2.
“We have seen reports about Putin’s upcoming visit to Mongolia. Mongolia, like other countries, has the right to develop its international relations in accordance with its interests. However, there is an arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin.”said Massrali.
He recalled that Mongolia had ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court in 2002, which entails legal obligations. Massrali added that Brussels had already conveyed its concern about the visit and the corresponding order.
