Four Schalke 04 fans were seriously injured in attacks carried out by elements believed to be linked to rival football clubs, German police said in a statement on Sunday.
According to the German authorities, the attack took place around 5:00 am, when several Schalke fans gathered in Gelsenkirchen to take a bus to Berlin, where the Pitmen will play Union in the Bundesliga this Sunday.
German police say about 100 people “probably” linked to radical support groups Rot-Weiss Essen and Borussia Dormund attacked hundreds of Schalke fans, including with baseball bats, and “at least four people were seriously injured.”
Later, the victims were taken to the hospital, their condition stabilized.
Schalke said in a statement that they “condemn all forms of violence” and wish “a speedy recovery to those affected.”
