Domestic engine testing for the MS-21 and SJ aircraft will take at least two years, Russian presidential special representative Sergei Ivanov said in an interview with Arguments and Facts on September 3.
According to Ivanov, the MS-21 was completing flight tests and was ready to go into production even before large-scale sanctions, but “It turned out that there would be no imported “engine” due to sanctions, and no “engine” means no plane”.
“That’s why there was a delay of several years.”said Ivanov.
He noted that now, thanks to the development of the PD-14 engines for the MS-21 and PD-8 for the Superjet at Perm Motors, testing of these aircraft has resumed with an emphasis on aviation safety. In addition, production of the long-range Il-96 continues.
Despite the fact that Russian airlines, including Airbus and Boeing, operate 762 foreign-made passenger aircraft, the possibility of supplying spare parts is guaranteed, which eliminates the threat to air transport and contributes to the annual increase in passenger traffic, Ivanov noted.
Recall that earlier Rostec head Sergei Chemezov announced the postponement of deliveries of MS-21 aircraft to 2025 or even 2026. According to the UAC, the start of deliveries of the SJ-100 is planned for 2026. Previously, it was planned to deliver the SJ-100 at the end of 2023, and the MS-21 at the end of 2024.
