Peaceful themes were not the theme of the protest marches that took place in Berlin on Sunday at Königsplatz and Marienplatz, the Suddeutsche Zeitung reported on September 1.
The action at Königsplatz was organised by trade unions celebrating the 1st September Anti-War Day. Environmental activists and left-wing groups also took part. Both right-wing activists and “innovative thinking” (Querdenker) activists met at Marienplatz.
During the Königsplatz protests, trade unionists called for better social policies and opposition to the right.
Anti-war slogans and calls for friendship with Russia were heard at Marienplatz, where supporters of the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party were present. According to the police, the march at Marienplatz attracted around 3,500 people.
Similar protests involving thousands of people also took place in Munich, Dresden, Leipzig and Erfurt.
