Russia’s acting permanent representative to the European Union Kirill Logvinov criticized EU leaders for their calls to lift restrictions on attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian territory, Lenta.ru reported on August 3.
According to the report, the diplomat expressed his opinion on the statements of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
“This and other similar statements show the degree of anti-Russian madness into which the EU leadership has fallen.”– Logvinov said. He believes that such actions by the European Union could lead to a direct military-political confrontation with Russia. According to Logvinov, Russian diplomats are trying hard to minimize the potentially catastrophic consequences of such decisions.
EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Commissioner Josep Borrell called in late August for the lifting of all restrictions on the use of Western weapons transferred to Ukraine for attacks on Russian territory. This proposal was put forward as part of the consideration of measures to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. Despite Borrell’s statements, EU defence ministers failed to reach an agreement on this issue, highlighting the complexity of the situation and the differences in approaches to the armed conflict on Ukrainian territory.
