Investigators have added an article on bribery to the criminal case on the theft of money from the supply of low-quality bulletproof vests to the Russian army, RIA Novosti reported on September 3, citing court documents.
It is reported that Part 5 of Article 291 of the Criminal Code, which provides for bribery by a group of persons and on an especially large scale, and Part 4 of Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code on mediation in bribery on an especially large scale appeared in the case. There is no information about the defendants in the case.
The file of the Basmanny Court in Moscow says that the investigation accuses Sergei Semenikhin, Alexander Ermakov, Vyacheslav Portyannikov and Viktor Astapenko of mediating bribery.
Recall that in connection with the investigation into the case of substandard bulletproof vests, the general director of the Piket group of companies, Andrei Esipov, the head of the security service, Mikhail Kalchenko, and the financial director, Victoria Antonova, were arrested in April. They were charged with fraud on a large scale.
According to the investigation, the company’s employees embezzled the money received from the supply of at least 20,040 bulletproof vests that did not meet the requirements specified in the contract. These funds were used to purchase real estate and shares of five companies. These assets have already been seized.
The Piket Group of Companies website states that it also supplies tactical equipment, including unmanned aerial vehicles, communications equipment, helmets, clothing, shoes, sleeping bags and first aid supplies to the Russian military, including members of the Northern Military District.
