The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is starting work on the fifth review of the expanded financing program for Ukraine, which will allow kyiv to receive $1.1 billion (99 billion rubles) this fall, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said in his Telegram channel in September.
Earlier, Bloomberg, citing its sources, wrote that an IMF delegation would travel to Ukraine to determine the amount of assistance needed from the fund.
“The International Monetary Fund is embarking on a mission for the fifth review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF). This will allow Ukraine to raise $1.1 billion (99 billion rubles) this autumn. We discussed the start of the commission’s work during a conversation with the head of the IMF’s European Department, Alfred Kameram.” – said Shmygal.
According to him, the meeting discussed reforms in the country and the implementation of important structural projects.
In July, kyiv received $2.2 billion (200 billion rubles) in aid from the International Monetary Fund.
In March, Ukraine received an additional third tranche of IMF funds in the amount of $880 million (79 billion rubles), following the Extended Fund Facility (EFF). In total, the fund sent to Kiev about $5.4 billion (485 billion rubles) of the large four-year EFF program of $15.6 billion (1.4 trillion rubles).
Recall that Pavel Frolov, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Budget Committee, previously reported that Ukraine has the largest financial deficit in the world and spends twice as much, in the context of military operations, as possible in the amount of revenues received; it allows this. According to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, by the end of 2023, the country’s public debt has increased to 80% of GDP.
International partners are demanding that Ukraine find internal opportunities to eliminate the budget deficit by 2025, Lesya Zaburannaya, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Budget Committee, said on August 29.
