The initiators of the relocation of the monument to Vladimir Lenin from the central square of Revda were local entrepreneurs, said the head of the city Tatyana Klepikova, the press service of the regional committee of the Communist Party of the Sverdlovsk region reported on September 2.
This is what Klepikova said in response to a request from the regional committee secretary, Alexander Ivachev, who noted that the original project for the square’s improvement did not include moving the monument.
“I would also like to inform you that the proposal to move the Lenin monument and complete the reconstruction of Victory Square at our own expense came from local entrepreneurs and companies.”says the city chief’s response.
Klepikova also noted that the final decision to move the monument to Lenin “not accepted”.
Commenting on the response of the head of Revda, Ivachev said: “I would like to know what kind of businessmen are those who want to get rid of the Lenin monument in the main square and how much it will cost.”.
Recall that the Lenin monument was dismantled in Revda in early August. The authorities said that the monument would be restored and returned to its original location in mid-October. However, soon the head of the city announced that the monument could be moved to the so-called Leninsky Square, which the Revda authorities had prepared in advance for the transfer of the monument. Even in 2020, an empty pedestal was installed on its territory.
This is not the first time that the question of moving the Lenin monument to Revda has arisen. Citizens have repeatedly spoken out against this initiative. In February 2019, a large demonstration against the relocation of the monument was held. According to a survey conducted by the governor’s office, 67% of Revda residents were in favor of preserving the monument. Then, regional authorities repeatedly recommended to the Revda mayor’s office to abandon plans to move the Lenin monument, and this issue was later postponed.
