Roscosmos has presented a model of a new Earth observation satellite at the Egypt Airshow 2024 international exhibition, the Roscosmos press service reported on September 3.
At the joint Roscosmos exhibition, VNIIEM Corporation presented a model of the Kanopus-VO Earth remote sensing satellite. Also on display are the Russian-Belarusian spacecraft (RBKA) and the Meteor-M meteorological satellite No. 2-4.
Canopus-VO was created based on the concept of replacing foreign components with domestic ones. A model of this satellite is being shown for the first time at an exhibition in Egypt. It is designed for topographical photography of the Earth’s surface in the visible, mid-infrared and far-infrared ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum. Currently, the Russian constellation of Canopus-V satellites performs similar functions.
Recall that in 2024 the import substitution programme will be 10 years old. Many years have passed since the introduction of the first package of anti-Russian sanctions, both political and economic. The Russian government, in response to the sanctions, announced the start of large-scale import substitution.
