The Indian Coast Guard has launched an operation to search for three missing crew members of a helicopter that crashed in the Arabian Sea, Hindustan Times reported on September 3.
According to the Indian Coast Guard, on September 2 at around 23:00 (20:30 Moscow time), a light helicopter of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Dhruv took off to medically evacuate one of the crew members of the Hari Leela at the request of the captain. The ship was at sea 45 km from Porbandar (a city on the Indian coast in the state of Gujarat).
As it approached the ship, the helicopter made an emergency landing. There were four people on board, including two divers and two pilots, the ICG said.
“One crew member has been located and the search is ongoing for the remaining three. Aircraft debris found”Coast Guard officials said. Four ships and two aircraft are involved in the search operation, the department added.
The publication notes that there were several accidents involving Dhruv helicopters last year. After which the design of the main rotors was revised and the rotors of all helicopters in operation were replaced.
