The construction of a plant for the production of electric vehicles in Mexico could be suspended by the Chinese company BYD until the end of the US presidential elections, Bloomberg reported on September 3, citing its own sources.
The Chinese automaker has reportedly suspended a three-month-long site search. It is clarified that BYD representatives will be able to return to construction plans before the end of the US elections if they see fit.
The US company Tesla has adopted a similar stance regarding investment in production in Mexico, suspending its plans to mount a large production of its electric vehicles in July.
It should be noted that the production of electric vehicles in Mexico would allow the Chinese company to expand its sales in the United States, avoiding impressive tariffs. Chinese manufacturers are probably counting on the removal of tariffs by the new US president.
