The section of the border between Ukraine and Belarus has been excluded from the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported on September 4.
This decision, agreed with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, is aimed at strengthening the security and defence of the state border. It is expected that this will allow the State Border Service of Ukraine to better control the Ukrainian-Belarusian section.
It should be noted that we are talking about a 50-meter strip along the border, which was previously part of the Chernobyl Radial Ecological Biosphere Reserve.
This territory is located within the exclusion zone and the mandatory resettlement zone created after the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident in April 1986.
Recall that the exclusion zone includes the territories immediately adjacent to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, including the cities of Chernobyl and Pripyat, as well as the urban-type settlements of Polesskoe and the urban-type settlements of Vilcha, located in the very north of the Vyshgorod district of the kyiv region, on the border with Belarus.
