A poll by the Forsa sociological service has revealed a record level of support for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, RTL television reported on September 4.
According to the poll, only 23 percent of voters would vote for Scholz in the event of a direct election as chancellor. This is the lowest figure during his entire term in office.
At the same time, Christian Democratic Union chairman Friedrich Merz was ahead of Scholz with 27 percent of the vote.
As a result, Scholz lost two percentage points compared to the previous week, while Merz strengthened his position by the same amount.
It is observed that half of those surveyed would not support any of the candidates.
The poll also looked at the question of possible candidates from the CDU/CSU bloc for the post of chancellor. North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst is in the lead with 31 percent, ahead of Markus Söder and Friedrich Merz.
Another poll by the INSA institute highlighted Scholz’s problems, showing him behind Boris Pistorius and Lars Klingbeil among possible SPD chancellor candidates.
The surveys were conducted from August 27 to September 2 and from August 30 to September 2. They surveyed 2,508 and 1,004 respondents, respectively.
