Burkina Faso’s army announced this Sunday it was halting French Sabre Force operations in the country, three weeks after the transitional government denounced the defense agreements signed between Paris and Ouagadougou and with the “jihadist” threat lingering.
“The General Headquarters of the Armed Forces and the command of the Saber Task Force organized on Saturday, February 18, 2023, in Campo Billa Zagre in Camboinsin (a suburb of Ouagadougou), a solemn flag lowering ceremony, marking the official completion of the task force’s operation from the ground in Burkina,” the headquarters said in a statement.
According to the text, this ceremony was chaired by the head of the army of the African country, Colonel Adam Nere and French Lieutenant Colonel Louis Lecacher, representing the command of the Saber detachment, a contingent of 400 special forces.
