Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor and Social Policy, has sent an appeal to Roskomnadzor asking it to clarify the situation with the slowdown of YouTube and its future in Russia, RIA Novosti reported on September 4.
The LDPR deputy notes that there has been a significant slowdown in YouTube’s speed recently, which is causing social tension among users due to uncertainty about its future in Russia.
“Please inform me about the current situation with the slowdown of the service, as well as about Roskomnadzor’s immediate plans to determine the future of YouTube in the Russian telecommunications space.”“Nilov wrote in his address to Roskomnadzor head Andrei Lipov.
Nilov stressed that many Russian citizens use the service for non-political purposes, such as education and entertainment, and that the service downtime is negatively impacting content monetization revenues for a number of users.
In addition, Nilov noted the increased use of VPN services as a means of circumventing restrictions due to the uncertainty of the situation. He also noted that the user community has the right to receive accurate information about the prospects of foreign hosting in Russia, especially in light of Roskomnadzor’s accusations of violations by Google LLC.
“People want to know when, under what conditions and circumstances the situation will change and the service will return to working as before”“, Nilov summed up.
We remind you that recently in Russia there has been a slowdown in access to YouTube video hosting. However, the authorities have not commented on the future of the service in the country.
