The UNITA president on Tuesday accused the Angolan government of “corruption” and “incompetence”, saying that it was the party founded by Jonas Savimbi that had the mission to change this situation and end the drama “in the management of resources”.
Adalberto da Costa Junior spoke at the opening of the 5th Ordinary Meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) in Luanda, the day the party celebrates “Patriot Day” in honor of its founder. Yonas Savimbi, killed in action 22 February 2002
The UNITA leader emphasized that Savimbi continues “after his death to influence and inspire generations of young people” and that “despite the strong intoxication and propaganda against him, the number of those who consider him the true inspirer of Angolan patriotism is growing every day.”
For Adalberto da Costa Junior, his political vision of Angola and the world “placed him in a target to be brought down by those who saw him as an obstacle to easy money and rampant exploitation of the country’s resources” and 21 years later. After his death, “the country did not democratize”, despite the extraordinary accumulation of capital, which were supposed to serve as levers to promote the development of the country.
For this reason, Angola “continues to go along with the success story.”
“All Angolans have already understood that it is not Jonas Savimbi who is responsible for the lack of water and electricity, unemployment, isolation, poverty, backwardness, but an incompetent, corrupt and undemocratic government,” the political leader criticized, recalling that the civil war ended 21 years ago.
“Let’s look around, what do we have in Angola? Is suffering and poverty over? Do we have energy and water? Is the hunger over? militants who joined the Sovismo complex today in Viana (Luanda).
Adalberto da Costa Junior’s words are also a response to recent statements by leaders of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the party in power since independence in 1975, attributing the country’s troubles to its military past.
The UNITA leader also raised the issue of national reconciliation, asking the government about “excluded” and “ignored” patriots, namely Savimbi and Holden Roberto, who led the Angolan National Liberation Front (FNLA), another Angolan nationalist movement with no right to statues or street names.
“Is it that difficult? Is this the Angola we dreamed of? Is it Angola that expresses openness? How much does such a step of reconciliation cost,” asked Adalberto da Costa Junior.
The politician stressed that Angola has been living in the world for 21 years, but is “experiencing a drama in managing its resources”, with “astronomical” domestic and foreign debts, representing the risk of mortgages in the future.
“The current regime has demonstrated its inability to govern this country for all its children,” he accused, adding that it was UNITA who had the mission to change the current situation and bring Angola out of the depression in which it found itself, falls on UNITA. .
It is impossible to develop a country if you do not have complete freedom when your children leave and use every opportunity to look for another country to live in, “even without conditions,” lamented the UNITA leader.
“This is not our founder’s dream,” he said, urging the militants to use the reflection day to “make Angola a better place and glorify” Jonas Savimbi.
As for UNITA, he noted that the party, which turns 57 in March, is “quite alive” and is present throughout the country, and addressed words of consolation to Savimbi’s children and other family members who were present at the ceremony.
