Russian President Vladimir Putin said this Wednesday during the Defender of the Fatherland Day ceremony that Russians are “protecting the most sacred thing: the Motherland and the family.” It should be noted that Putin’s participation in the event was not envisaged.
Amidst Russian chants, Vladimir took the opportunity to congratulate the soldiers involved in what he calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine.
“We are proud. Congratulations to all on this very important day. Those who support us play a fundamental role for us. Thank you for defending our interests,” Putin backed up during his speech in Moscow.
The Russian leader also said that some historical sites in the country are being attacked and that “Russian troops are fighting heroically.”
February 24 marks the first anniversary of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Already more than eight thousand dead and tens of thousands of wounded.
