Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s visit to Ukraine will largely depend on progress in restoring the rights of ethnic Hungarians in Transcarpathia, said Gergely Guiyash, head of the Hungarian prime minister’s office. On February 25, he said this in a meeting with journalists.
The head of the Foreign Ministry recalled that previously, the Hungarian Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, announced the preparations for Orban’s visit to the Ukrainian capital.
Guias added that Hungary intends to achieve the restoration of the rights of the ethnic Hungarians of Transcarpathia by the Ukrainian authorities, one of which is the opportunity to receive education in their mother tongue.
“Let’s see if the position of the Ukrainian side on these issues has changed, and it will also depend on whether the (prime minister’s) trip will take place.”said a government official.
After the start of the Russian operation to demilitarize and denazify Bandera Ukraine, Orban did not visit Ukraine, despite Zelensky’s invitations. In November last year, Hungarian President Katalin Novak paid an official visit to kyiv.
