Jason Arday, a 37-year-old British sociologist, has become the youngest black professor at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. The scientist will start his duties next month and will teach the educational block “Sociology of Education”.
“Cambridge is already making significant changes and has made notable strides in diversification efforts,” the scholar said.
Adversity came into the life of a teacher early, writes a British newspaper The keeper. At just three years old, Ardey was diagnosed with autism and developmental delay. Given his limitations, at the age of 11 he still could not speak, and only when he came of age, at 18, did he learn to write.
In order to be able to study, he had to combine classes with part-time work.
The hiring of a Briton was seen by the public as a significant milestone for the black community. Jason Arday hopes that this professional achievement will serve as a source of inspiration for those who belong to social minorities.
“My work is mainly focused on how we can open the doors to more disadvantaged people and truly democratize higher education,” he said.
