An employee at the home of Santa Casa da Misericordia de Boliqueime, where a user was attacked by ants at night in June 2022, was charged with a crime against physical integrity by the Ministry of Public Administration due to negligence.
According to the Department of Investigations and Criminal Affairs of Faro, in 2022 the defendant was an employee of Santa Casa da Misericordia de Boliqueime who was tasked with, among other things, “changing users’ diapers and making several rounds of their rooms to see if them outside support.
According to the prosecutor, the employee did not follow the night shift work schedule from 00:00 to 08:00 and “did not enter the room of an 86-year-old dependent woman. on hygiene and dressing by third parties, who wore a diaper and fed through a tube, finding herself disoriented in time and space.
During the night, from 00:00 to 08:00, “hundreds or thousands of ants entered the woman’s room and bit her on the head, limbs and body, causing skin irritation and salivation.”
The woman died a month after this episode.
