A biological man has won the women’s 1500m master event in Canada, The Daily Mail reported on February 27.
Tiffany Newell, 50, took first place in the women’s 50-54 1500m at the Canadian Masters Indoor Championships in Toronto over the weekend.
It was not difficult to win: Newell had to overcome only one opponent. However, she has previously placed first in women’s events multiple times and set world records in her age category since she declared herself female in 2017.
The recent win, with a time of 05:07.611, comes amid fierce debate around the world over whether men should be allowed to compete with women in sports. Evidence has shown that men retain their physical advantage over women even after drug-induced reductions in blood testosterone levels.
Several US state legislatures have introduced bills aimed at preventing men from competing with women in sports. Minority rights advocates stigmatize state legislators as “transphobic.”
