The Estonian Conservative People’s Party (EKRE) submitted a request to the Security Police (KAPO) to investigate whether the party’s accusation of cooperation with PMC Wagner is an attempt to influence the elections, ERR reports on February 28.
“To guarantee the legitimacy of the elections, it is necessary that foreign states cannot interfere in them. The manipulation of election results is a direct threat to Estonia’s constitutional order and the functioning of democracy. Today, the integrity of the elections is in question.”says the statement.
Recall that on February 18, Politico reported the existence of documents confirming the cooperation of Estonian nationalists with the structures of Yevgeny Prigozhin in 2019 before the elections to the European Parliament. The party declared this information false and on February 27 Prigozhin confirmed that he had collaborated with the EKRE leadership as part of an anti-Western policy.
Please note that parliamentary elections are held in Estonia at the beginning of March 2023. In recent years, EKRE has consistently ranked among the top three most popular political forces in the republic.
